Helping cut the ribbon were Dollar General staff, Bourbon Town Council President Les McFarland and Marshall County Commissioners President Kevin Overmyer.
McFarland said, “We appreciate Dollar General investing in our great community. The newly opened store will give people more choices to shop in Bourbon. Dollar General brought 10 new jobs to Bourbon.”
He said, “It was a nice day to see fellow members of the community attending to show support for our awesome community. “
During the May 8 meeting of the Bourbon Council, they pledged $5,000 to help in the countywide efforts to possibly secure a Regional Economic Stellar Grant. In presenting the details of the grant process to the council, Overmyer indicated that the opening of Dollar General would be the type of project that shows progress in the area.
Following the Dollar General grand opening, Overmyer said, “I want to thank the town of Bourbon and their elected officials for their work on this project.”
He said council members McFarland, Larry Wattenbarger and P.J. Hanley, along with Clerk-Treasurer Kim Berger, worked hard to bring a new business into the area.
Overmyer said, “This is a great way to step up our Regional Economic Stellar designation.”
He said the committee working on the grant process would like people in all the area’s communities to give input as what they want as a quality of life to attract more housing, jobs and more people throughout the county.
WTCA AM 1050 radio website features a survey where residents can give their opinions. Overmyer said they will be offering a number of other ways to gather input as well.
