Bechtold, Busz Lead Whitko Boys Golf Over Wabash

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Wildcat golf team won 183-197 over Wabash on Thursday.

Whitko’s Cade Bechtold and Kaleb Busz both shot a 41 to lead the team. Kylar Bryant carded a 48.

Jonathan Strayer fired a 53 and Storm Baldridge shot a 93 to round out the golfers.

The Wildcats compete in the Three Rivers Match at Rozella Ford Golf Club on Saturday.



Tigers Trim Panthers

NAPPANEE – The Warsaw golf team won 163-168 over NorthWood on Thursday.

The Tigers now sit at 3-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play.

Warsaw’s Chase Byron shot a 40, two strokes behind the medalist from NorthWood.

Luke Delp, Tommy Meier and Jacob LaLonde all shot a 41 for the Tigers. Sam Yeager rounded out the golfers with a 43.

The Warsaw junior varsity team won 183-187 over the Panthers. 

Zach LaLonde shot a 41 to lead the team. Tucker Carlile (43), Cole Voss (46), Noah Pequignot (53) and Mason Whitaker (56) competed for the Tigers.

On Saturday, the varsity will attend the Culver Academies Invite. The JV will compete in the Westville JV Invitational.

Wawasee Competes In Northern Lakes Match

ELKHART – Wawasee competed in a three-way golf match with Concord and Elkhart Memorial on Thursday.

The Minutemen won with a 173 and the Warriors (184) finished second. Memorial tallied a 199.

Wawasee’s Dillon Drake shot a 43. He was one stroke behind the medalist from Concord.

Zach Leedy carded a 45 and Luke Weisser shot a 46. Jared Krugman (50) and Evan Dippon (57) rounded out the golfers for the Warriors.

The Wawasee junior varsity team tied for first with Concord. Both teams shot a 195 and Memorial fired a 235.

The Warriors compete in the Culver Academies Invitational on Saturday.



Central Defeats Wawasee In Softball Action

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee softball team lost 3-2 in a nonconference matchup with Elkhart Central.

The Lady Warriors tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Central stopped the momentum and scored one in the top of the fourth, which proved to be the difference.

Graceanne Kerlin had one hit and an RBI for Wawasee. Bethany Flannery and Delaney Hare each had a single.

Flannery took the loss in the circle. In her seven innings of work, she allowed five hits, three earned runs, zero walks and struck out five.

Wawasee hosts Plymouth tonight at 5:30 p.m.

Valley Defeats Marion In Nonconference Clash

AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley softball team won 7-6 over Marion on Thursday in a nonconference clash.

Valley’s Kayla Scott got the win after pitching 3-1/3 innings. She allowed six hits, four earned runs and struck out two batters.

Ally Betten led the team with three hits. She tallied two RBIs.

Alex Gomez had two hits, including a double. She led the team with four RBIs. 

Sydney Howard, Amy Baca and Scott all had two hits.

The Lady Vikings play at Central Noble on Saturday.

Triton Netters Win HNAC Tournament

The Hoosier North Athletic Conference hosted its girls tennis tournament on Thursday.

Triton won the team title.

In the finals, Kolbie Mason won 6-0, 6-4 over Knox at No. 1 singles.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross won 6-0, 6-1 against Knox. Megan McFarland and Emma Hepler won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 over LaVille.

By winning their matches, they were selected as first-team all conference in the HNAC.



Peru Clips Whitko In Tennis Contest

PERU – The Whitko girls tennis team lost 3-2 at Peru on Thursday. 

Whitko’s Natalie Iholtz won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Lilly Owsley won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Lady Wildcats play their last conference match of the season tonight at Rochester.
