Altrusa International Of Warsaw

Altrusa International of Warsaw, a local nonprofit service organization, installed its officer team for the 2018-19 fiscal year on May 3. Immediate Past President Vicki Martin served as installing officer for the new team.

Serving are President Bev Faulkner; Co-Vice Presidents Vicky Patterson and Martie Lennane; Secretary Beth Huffer; Treasurer Jan Sloan; and Directors Sharon Sanders, Mary Garrett and Sue Woodward.

The club, affiliated with Altrusa International Inc., also kicked off its 45th anniversary celebration.

The membership committee initiated five members, bringing the total new club members to nine for this past fiscal year (June 2017-May 2018). New members include Alyx Bates, Stephanie Booth, Jacki Decker, Barbara Frye, Mary Garrett, Julie Hall, Darci Kessie, Rosemary Laughlin and Carol Vierling.

The Warsaw Club members enjoy hands-on projects benefitting the community and conduct fundraisers to support their service projects.  

The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Richards Restaurant, Warsaw. Visitors are welcome; anyone interested in serving the community is encouraged to attend. More information can be found on the Altrusa Warsaw Facebook page or by contacting members at [email protected].



Winona Literary Club

Winona Literary Club met May 2 at the Robin Hood Community Center with 24 members and five guests present.

After prayer and the collect, guest speaker Eric Lane of Fellowship Missions told the group about the start-up and workings of this project.

Guests were introduced during the business portion of the meeting.

The meeting closed with prayer and refreshments.

The next meeting, the Spring Luncheon, is at noon Wednesday.



American Association Of University Women

The Warsaw branch of American Association of University Women will hold its Spring Breakfast meeting at 9 a.m. May 19 at Bella Vitale Restaurant.

Mary Eherenman is hostess in charge of arrangements and the cost of breakfast is $9. Dues for the 2018-19 year will be received; members who cannot attend should send their dues to Cindy Nolton, treasurer.

There will be a report about the AAUW state conference by the president, Pam Chastain, and president-elect, Stephanie Ducheteau. Installation of new officers will also take place.

AAUW advances equality for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. The Warsaw branch has been active since 1949, and new members are always welcome. Friends Of Warsaw Library

Friends of Warsaw Community Public Library met May 7 with 20 members in attendance. All enjoyed ice cream and cookies in honor of Mother’s Day.

Prizes from a special drawing went to Marlys Huffman, Sue Williamson, Melanie Martin, Cheryl Pittenger and Sue Lane. Roxana Reffitt won the hanging flower basket door prize.

Surprises are planned June 4 in honor of Father’s Day.

The business meeting centered on WCPL’s 2018 Wish List. By membership vote, three items on the list were approved for immediate purchase.

At the April 12 book sale, shoppers who purchased a Blind Date with a Book could fill out rate card and enter a drawing. During the meeting, Ann Zydek, library director, announced the winner is Polly Gabbett.

Members are preparing for FOL’s large book sale May 24-26. The sale has added a surprise grab bag filled with books (westerns, romance, children’s, crafts), and jigsaw puzzles will be on sale.



Wednesday Night Bridge

The group had five tables May 9, with the following winners: Mike Herring, Virginia Horn, Joyce Latta, Becky Girard, Kathy Clary and Joan Kizer.

Janet and John Wagley are hostess and host for May.

The next meeting is May 16. New bridge players are welcome. If interested call Janet Wagley 574-268-1330.



North Webster Community Center SPEC

NORTH WEBSTER — This week’s bridge winners at the Senior Prime Enrichment Center were:

Tuesday: Jerry Hetrick, first, and Suze Wilt, second.

Thursday: Wilt, first, and Richard Blank, second.



Four Seasons Ladies Bridge

WINONA LAKE — The group gathered Wednesday at Grace Village, with Dian Cartwright as hostess.

Winners were Sondra Dicken, Peg Zimmerman, Erma Swank and Elaine Tripp.



Singles Meeting Friends

Donna brought her Parks & Recreation summer program book Wednesday and read the schedule of events for Music in the Park this summer in Warsaw.

The group was reminded that Relay For Life continues and members can still help with the fight against cancer.

Singles Meeting Friends meets between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the upstairs deli at Martin’s Super Market, Warsaw. Euchre often follows the weekly meeting.



Grace Thursday Bridge

Grace Thursday Bridge met May 10 with Elaine Tripp as hostess.

Winners were Tripp and Carol Freeman.
