Manchester beat the host Lady Vikings 5-0, and lost just nine games in doing so.
The Lady Squires improved to 7-4 overall and 5-0 in the TRC standings.
Junior Kelsey Eichenauer tallied Manchester’s first team point in the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Valley senior Lea Stouder at No. 1 singles.
“Kelsey’s really been working hard to improve the little parts of her game,” said Manchester coach Joel Eichenauer. “I look forward to her peaking here at the end of our state tournament run.”
At No. 2 doubles, the Lady Squires’ duo of senior Lauren Metzger and junior Anna Osborne beat Valley’s combo of seniors Kaleigh Shumaker and Morgan Gilbertson 6-0, 6-1.
“Anna stepped up from JV?to provide just the right shots to compliment her veteran partner,” said Eichenauer. “Their all-around play really led to an easy victory.”
The decisive team point came off the racquet of sophomore Rebekah Pyle, who moved over from doubles play to fill the spot at No. 3 singles.
After a 4-0 start in the first set, Pyle lost three consecutive games to Valley senior Courtney Randall, but rebounded with eight straight games to win 6-3, 6-0.
“Rebekah’s strokes really stood out as the match progressed,” said Eichenauer. “She’s a smart player who took control of points early and often.”
The No. 1 doubles match went to the Lady Squires by a 6-2, 6-0 score, with freshman Eva Bazzoni and senior Kendra Auler beating Valley juniors Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley.
In the final match to finish, Manchester freshman Halle Briner topped Valley senior Makayla Sandbakken 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
Briner won the final nine games to seal the 5-0 team win for the Lady Squires.
“Halle had a consistent, gritty opponent who made her really win the points,” said Eichenauer. “I saw growth in her focus and determination.”
The Lady Squires won all six JV?matches that were contested, including 8-0 wins by Alexa Donathan and Morgan Stroud at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Brylee Kerr and Lillian Myers were 6-0 winners at No. 4 doubles for the Manchester JV team, which improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in TRC play.
The Lady Squires host Northfield today for senior night, while Valley hosts Bethany Christian today.
