Webster Man Faces Charges After Stolen Items, Meth Found In Storage Unit

Jason Scott Lewallen, 32, of 7280 E. CR 650N, North Webster, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:22 p.m. Saturday for burglary. His preliminary bond was set at $10,250.
Court documents filed Thursday list the charges against Lewallen as burglary, a level 5 felony; auto theft, a level 6 felony; and possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony, with an enhancement to make it a level 5 felony.
Lewallen was previously convicted of dealing methamphetamine on Sept. 30, 2010.

On Jan. 13, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Christopher Francis responded to a burglary and auto theft at a Kosciusko location. A man told him his home was under construction and sometime between Nov. 10 and Jan. 13, someone stole his customized Chevrolet S10 from his barn.
KCSD deputy Shane Bucher learned that Lewallen had stolen the S10 and that the vehicle was at Space Maker Self Storage. Bucher also was told the storage unit was full of stolen items.
Bucher obtained search warrants for the storage unit, and on Jan. 19 the man identified the S10, as well a battery and hammer, as his.
Officers also found a metal container that contained a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
They also found a Snap On torque wrench with serial number and miscellaneous air tools reported stolen to the Middlebury Police Department by Coachman. Items were identified by a Coachman employee as belonging to the company.
Lewallen admitted to Bucher that he stole a torque wrench from Coachman. He said he received and was storing the S10 for another man. In agreeing to store the S10, Lewallen said he would get the motor.
The other man told Bucher that Lewallen said his truck was broke down and he needed a mechanic. Lewallen drove him to an S10 parked along the roadway. He was able to get the vehicle started and drove the S10 to the storage unit. He said he helped Lewallen move things around to get the truck inside.
