Not So Easy

I'm responding to your article in the newspaper, Mr. Grossman. I find this situation neither simple or humorous. The Kosciusko  Fair just celebrated its 100th anniversary.

We have real concerns as do the people that oppose racing at the Kosciusko Community Fairgrounds.

The fairgrounds is a not-for-profit organization. We count on summer events to sustain us thoughout the the entire year. Other income such as building and pier space rentals are not enough. The fair is a large source of income for us, but still is not adequate to cover all or our expenses.

When the fairgrounds had stock car and Sprint car racing, we were financially sound. We were able to maintain the grounds and buildings to a higher standard. We had funds  to hold commnuity events and programs that are now beyond our reach. The Kosciusko Community Fairgrounds is what the name says a – community venue.

As far as your suggestion to build a race track somewhere else, what would that solve? If another entity built the track, the fairgrounds would not share in the revenue. If the fairgrounds built a track at a different location, we would have two properties to maintain. This would increase our expenses.

As for the decision of the 1990 versus board of directors, they didn't consider the financial impact on the fairgrounds. They didn't consider the future of the fairgrounds. They didn't consider the bad publicity the fairgrounds would incur and still battles today.

Mr. Grossman, your suggestions could work for Central Park but not for the Kosciusko Community Fairgrounds. We are struggling, but we are battling to maintain our venue. The Community deserves a place to hold events and activities and the Kosciusko Community Fairgrounds is that place.

Chip Shots: How Callous IS It?
For every 700 to 1,000 words of mine you read on any given Saturday, I have a list of callous, cynical thoughts and remarks I can make about the topics I discuss… easily five-fold of what I allow past my filter and, in turn, e-mail to my editor.
