Judith H. Smyjunas, Leesburg, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, at the age of 77.

She was born Feb. 23, 1941, in South Bend, to Bert VanDercar and Henrietta Grzeszczyk VanDercar. On Oct. 13, 1962, in Auburn, she was married to Joseph Smyjunas, who survives.  

Judith was a 1959 graduate of Auburn High School, and she was a 1989 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Pierceton, where she was a lector. Judith will be forever loved and dearly missed by her family and church family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Joseph Smyjunas, Leesburg; son, J. Robert (wife Bitsy) Smyjunas, Cincinnati, Ohio; and her daughter, Elizabeth (husband Robert) Jackson, Raleigh, N.C. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Peter Jackson, and Robert, Samantha, Evan and Quinn Smyjunas; and her brother, Bert VanDercar, Boise, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 8, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 408 W. Catholic St., Pierceton. Her funeral mass will follow immediately at noon Tuesday, celebrated by Father Chuck Herman.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Auburn.

Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
