Mack, the son of Lester and Ruth Fetters, was born and raised in Bourbon, where he lived his entire life. After graduating from Bourbon High School in 1945, Mack married the love of his life, Melba Koontz, on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951. They celebrated their 67th anniversary just last Sunday.
In addition to giving his life to farming, Mack labored on behalf of his church and community by serving on numerous boards, including church consistory, Sunday school superintendent, Marshall County Planning Commission, Triton School Board and many others.
Mack loved Jesus, adored his wife, loved his five children and their spouses, his 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. By those outside of his immediate family, Mack was known as a good friend — someone who you could trust to come to for sound advice or a word of encouragement. He was a good man who lived a kind, generous and honorable life.
Faithful to the end, Mack passed joyfully and peacefully into the arms of God. Some of the last words that he spoke to his family were, “Boy oh boy, what a great life!”
Mack is survived by his wife, Melba; and children: Jeff Fetters (wife Marty), Owatonna, Minn.; Greg Fetters (wife Tanya), Charlotte, N.C.; Jan Miller (husband Barry), Plymouth; Mark Fetters (wife Beth), Carmel; and Rod Fetters (wife Paris), Ossian. Mack was the proud grandfather of Sarell Hochstetler, 35 (husband Jeff); Ben Fetters, 35 (wife Stacia); Seth Miller, 33; Harmony Fetters, 32; Spencer Fetters, 31 (wife Jenny); Andrew Fetters, 29; Philip Fetters, 29; Brett Fetters, 29; Scott Fetters, 28; Ashley Fetters, 28; Audrey Miller, 26; Chad Miller, 25; and Abigail Fetters, 22. Mack also delighted in his eight great-grandchildren: Kylar, Korie, Cademin, Karsyn, Carlee, Lyric, Dylan and Aria.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Burial will follow in Parks Cemetery, Bourbon.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
