3 Local Projects Financed By INDOT

By Staff Report-

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced today that $161.2 million in federal transportation funding is being awarded to 66 cities, towns and counties in rural portions of Indiana, including three in and around Warsaw for transportation projects.

The city of Warsaw will receive  funding for three projects. The biggest one is a  $2,583,763 reconstruction project involving Anchorage Road/CR 200N between Detroit Street and Biomet Drive, but not necessarily the intersection with U.S. 30.

City planner Jeremy Skinner said it was too early to tell if there would be any changes to that intersection.

INDOT also appropriated  $1,123,407.60 for the construction of ADA-compliant sidewalks  on Sheridan, East Clark and East Fort Wayne streets between Colfax and Cook streets. The sidewalks are near Lincoln Elementary School, and there are places within the scope of the project that have no sidewalks.

A total of $637,100.47 was approved to reconstruct a bridge on Hand Avenue over Walnut Creek. The structure is just south of where Center and Market streets meet on the west side of Warsaw.

For this latest round of funding, rural communities will design, develop and purchase land for projects that would be bid during the fiscal year beginning July 2021. While the funds awarded today are dedicated to construction, INDOT will be financially participating in the design, engineering and right of way acquisition components of these projects.

Rural communities were invited to submit project applications to INDOT for potential funding during a call for projects announced in October 2017.
