NORTH WEBSTER — Daryle L. Hill, 83, Columbia City, passed away at 2:28 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

He was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Columbia City, to Ira Raymond and Mildred L. “Peg” Bills Hill.

He was a lifetime resident of Whitley, Noble and Kosciusko counties. He graduated in 1953 from North Webster High School and was a United States Army veteran.

He attended Murray (Ky.) State University and Boise (Idaho) Junior College, and graduated from the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho, with a bachelor’s degree in education. He received his master’s degree from St. Francis in Fort Wayne, and attended Ball State and St. Francis Universities, working on his Ph.D.

On March 21, 1970, in Columbia City, he was married to Marlene K. Leedy, who survives.

He retired after 30 years as the owner/operator of Hills Trucking Co. and drove for Starfleet in Middlebury. He taught for 12 years in Idaho, Warsaw, Etna Troy, Wolf Lake  and Concord schools.    

He was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster, and was a 32nd Degree Mason in Fort Wayne. He formerly attended Calvary Baptist Church, Oswego, and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Ligonier.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Hill, Columbia City; a daughter, Penny Groves, Leesburg; a son, Steve Hill, Wheatfield; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tom Hill, Pierceton.

He was preceded by his parents and two brothers, Jerry and Jim Hill.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, in the funeral home, with Pastor Greg Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
