The name of the 16-year-old was not released.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Capt. and Public Information Officer Chris McKeand said it started as a vehicle being reported stolen out of Warsaw a couple of days ago. It was found abandoned near the area of CR 950W, south of Etna Green, near Mentone. The KCSD received a report of a car stolen from that area.
Then on Tuesday, Warsaw Police Department had a call of a male subject going through vehicles at D.C. Haircrafters. Warsaw police confronted the juvenile but he took off in a stolen 2006 Dodge minivan.
A KCSD officer was able to get behind the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him, but the suspect ran and drove through a redlight, striking a SUV at the intersection of Bronson Street and Winona Avenue.
“The pursuit only lasted a few blocks,” McKeand said, with the incident occurring at about 6:10 p.m.
A 2-year-old in the SUV, a 2004 GMC Yukon, had bruising to the head and both drivers complained of pain, but no one was taken to a hospital, according to WPD Public Information Officer Ryan Coble. The SUV driver was Mariah Metzger, 23, North Manchester. Also in the SUV was Austin Metzger, 27, North Manchester.

The WPD worked the crash aspect of the incident, McKeand said. He said it was not a high-speed crash, with speeds only reaching 35 mph.
“He did have an established parole hold. He is being held in a juvenile detention center in Kokomo for the parole hold and on our charges,” McKeand said of the juvenile suspect.
The teen faces possible charges of resisting law enforcement – fleeing, auto theft, false informing and possession of stolen property.
Assisting in the incident were the Indiana State Police, Warsaw street and police departments, the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team and the state reconstruction team.
