Two Arrested After Fight

Two men were arrested following an altercation in which a father allegedly stabbed his son in the back with a small knife.



Johnny Gomez, 51, of 3762 W. Old 30, #618, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:24 a.m. June 18 for domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.



Court documents filed Friday list the charges against Johnny as domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.



Joseph Santana Gomez, 18, of 3762 W. Old 30, #618, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the KCJ at 12:14 a.m. June 18 for domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.



Court documents filed Friday list the charges against Joseph as domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery with a Class A misdemeanor.



On June 17, Warsaw Police officer Ross Minear responded to a domestic complaint at a campground in Warsaw. He talked with Johnny who said he and his son, Joseph, were arguing when Joseph pushed him down and hit him on the face. Minear saw redness on Johnny’s face.



Minear spoke with Joseph who said he and his dad were arguing when Johnny pushed and hit him on the face. Joseph said Johnny approached him with a small pocket knife and stabbed him in the back. Minear saw a small straight cut on Joseph’s back.



Warsaw officer Phil Hawks spoke with a witness who said she saw Johnny and Joseph in a physical confrontation. She said she saw Johnny on top of Joseph, punching him repeatedly on the face. Johnny eventually got off and went inside a camper. Johnny then exited the camper with a knife  and started chasing Joseph. The witness said the entire fight took place in front of two children.



Joseph already had charges pending in Kosciusko County Superior Court II for battery resulting in bodily injury.



Johnny has a previous conviction for domestic battery in Kosciusko County in 2017. He also has a previous conviction for battery resulting in bodily injury in 2015, and convictions for battery in 2012 and 2010, according to court records.
