NORTH MANCHESTER — The monthly meeting of the Frances Slocum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution took place June 9 at the Main View Inn, North Manchester. Two special guests were welcomed, Pat King from Buffalo, N.Y., and Anna Johnson from Santa Margarita, Calif.
Devotions from 1 Corinthians 15:22 given by Mary Jenet Penrod, chaplain. Joyce Joy shared the June president general's message from Ann Turner Dillon. She said the 127th Continental Congress week will “be educational and inspire you about the scope of work done by the National Society. It is a time to get ideas to take back to your chapter.”
The National Defender Report encouraged members to attend the patriotism luncheon on Wednesday. The luncheon unites Daughters in saluting those who serve and those who have served. It is a joint effort of the National Defense Committee, the DAR Service for Veterans Committee and the DAR Project Patriot Committee.
Correspondence was an invitation to the Northeast DAR District Meeting on Aug. 7 at Christ Lutheran Church, Kokomo; a thank-you from Berry College for Box Tops for Education; and an invitation from the Miriam Benedict Chapter to attend the gravesite rededication ceremony for Pvt. Clark Burlingame, LaPorte, on June 24.
The chapter honored deceased member Sue Ann Wake Potter, a 22-year member of the chapter.
Barbara Amiss gave a report on the Indiana DAR 117th State Conference. The chapter was honored for high activity on American history, the DAR Book Club, the photo of the Stockdale Mill for Indiana points of interest for the 2019 calendar and the Moving Forward in Service to America certificate presented by Dillon.
The program was an American flag trivia questionnaire.
The next meeting of the Frances Slocum Chapter will be in September, with time and place to be announced. Prospective members and guests are welcome to attend.
DAR membership is open to any woman 18 and older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Those having questions about their family history lineage information may contact www.dar.org or Linda Thompson at 260-563-4661 or Amiss at 260-982-4376.
Wednesday Night Bridge
On June 13 the group had five tables, with the following winners: David Haines, Annette Magner, Joyce Metz, Joan Earhart, Grant Magner and Janet Petro.
Janet and John Wagley are hostess and host for June. The next meeting is June 20. New bridge players are welcome; if interested call Janet Wagley at 574-268-1330.
Four Seasons Ladies Bridge
WINONA LAKE — The group met Wednesday at Grace Village with Barb Calhan as hostess.
Winners were Becky Girard, JoAnn Earhart, Sondra Dicken and Liz Frazzetta.
Singles Meeting Friends
A small group gathered Wednesday evening upstairs at the Martin's Super Market deli.
Those who attended game night June 8 at Martin's enjoyed playing dominoes as a change from cards.
Donald had to replace his home phone service following last week's storms. The electrical storm sent a charge through and destroyed his home base system.
Susanne said she has been working diligently on setting up her landscaping at her lot in Jellystone and feels settled in now.
Many discussed the Friday night concerts at Center Lake area, which everyone seems to enjoy.
Grace Thursday Bridge
Grace Thursday Bridge met June 14 with Carol Freeman as hostess.
Winners were Anne Thallemer and ?Elaine Tripp.

NORTH WEBSTER — Bridge results from the Senior Prime Enrichment Center this week were:
June 12 – Joyce Metz, first, and Richard Blank, second.
June 14 – Jean Cowan, first, and Blank, second.
Pierceton Senior Center
PIERCETON — Seven members and two guests enjoyed the carry-in dinner May 21 at the Pierceton Senior Center.
John opened the meeting with a "funny" about not having any enemies. He also shared news that Dr. DeYoung will come to the July 16 meeting to talk about weather in Indiana.
Nedra explained that she is collecting information about businesses in Pierceton as a project for the Kosciusko Historical Society. Members were able to provide information such as a Kroger store and a movie theater in Pierceton. Many talked about Reid-Murdoch and tomato time when the streets were lined with wagons heaped with tomatoes.
During the business portion, Carolyn explained that the checking account balance declines each month even without an expense because the group pays a bank charge for low monthly balance — $63 so far. Seniors who eat lunch daily at the Center have been notified that meals will no longer be served.
John led the Pledge of Allegiance and reminded the group about the next meeting at 6 p.m. Monday.
