Linda Sue Bryant, 45, of 106 N. High St., Silver Lake, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday for trafficking with an inmate - drugs/weapon/cell phone. Her preliminary bond was set at $10,250, according to her booking information.
Court documents filed Wednesday list the charges against Bryant as two counts of trafficking with an inmate, level 5 felonies; dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance, a level 6 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. The documents list Bryant’s bond as $50,000 surety and $250 cash.
On Tuesday, Kosciusko County court security officer John Hart escorted inmate Nicholas Silva to Superior Court III for a hearing. Hart then saw on a surveillance video a female courtroom visitor, later identified as Bryant, throw an object to Silva while he was sitting in the jury box.
Hart went to the jury box where Silva was sitting and retrieved a plastic bag wrapped in black electrical tape containing a Samsung cell phone, earbuds, a phone charger, rolling papers, 30 grams of marijuana and 10 pills of alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance.
KCSD deputy Donald McCune spoke with Bryant who admitted she brought the cell phone, pills and marijuana into the jail for her son, Donald Bryant Jr., court paperwork said.
KCSD Det. Mike Speigle obtained copies of a phone call made from the jail by Donald Bryant Jr. on Monday in which he instructs her to toss the items to a “young Mexican kid” (Silva) while he is sitting in the jury box.
Paperwork says he told his mother when to be there and how to package the items.
