ISP Releases Details Of Thursday’s 5-Vehicle Crash

Friday afternoon the Indiana State Police released some details regarding the five-vehicle accident Thursday on U.S. 30 at its intersection with C.R. 150W, commonly known as Silveus Crossing.

The report, filed by Senior Trooper Timothy Carpenter, said eastbound traffic was stopped for a red light when a 1997 Tahoe driven by Akron resident Timothy Fournier, 19, failed to stop, causing a chain reaction crash.

The Tahoe then collided with the rear of a 2017 Cadillac that had stopped in the passing lane. That vehicle was driven by David Penn, 70 of Naperville, Ill. Penn was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two female passengers in the Penn vehicle suffered serious injuries. One passenger was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and the other was taken by ambulance to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Neither was identified in the report.

The collision caused the Cadillac to collide with the back of a 2012 Buick driven by Willie T. Peacock, 80 of Chicago. Peacock was transported to KCH with minor injuries.

The chain-reaction collision continued by pushing the Peacock vehicle into the back of a 2015 Dodge driven by Brandon Shumaker, 28, of Warsaw. Shumaker was not injured in the crash.

After the Fournier vehicle collided with Penn’s vehicle, it swerved to the left and collided with the rear of a 2010 Ford that was in the left turn lane of eastbound U.S. 30. It was driven by Bradley Bibler, 58, Warsaw. Bibler was uninjured in the crash.

Carpenter said alcohol and drugs are not suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 were shut down for approximately an hour and a half for clean-up and reconstruction of this crash.

The Indiana State Police were assisted by Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Wayne Township Fire, Lutheran EMS and Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
