American Association Of University Women

The May breakfast meeting of AAUW was May 19 at the Bella Vitale Restaurant.  Members enjoyed a breakfast buffet prior to Pam Chastain welcoming everyone and giving her last report as president.

The report included announcements to sign up for hostess duties; to give address, email or phone changes prior to the booklet being published; dues are payable to Cindy Nolton, treasurer; an update on the scholarship fundraiser; and a report on the AAUW state convention. The topics at the convention included family leave for women and Title IX. A female member of a police department who is now a member of the Indiana General Assembly discussed her attempts to repeatedly submit a bill on equal pay for women. Pam also reminded members to vote their choice for the AAUW amendments no later than June 9.

The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were given and approved. Renatta Erwin shared that there are several candidates for the two $500 scholarships, and the committee will be submitting their scores soon and picking winners.

The installation of the new president-elect, Stephanie Ducheteau, was the final event of the meeting, along with welcoming Marsha Cook as the new president.

Finally, Pam read the book “She Persisted,” about 13 women who overcame barriers to succeed.

Pam was given a president's pin in appreciation for her leadership over the past two years.
