Socialism: A Sad Joke

Socialism is like a mud pie. People love pie. But would they eat it if it were mud?
Socialism promises "free" things like education, health care, housing, food and a guaranteed income. But those who promise those things don't tell you that crushing taxation is required and the "free" things will cost trillions of dollars.
Teachers and doctors don't do their jobs for free. Once the sources of money are gone, forget about government largess. Socialism left Venuzuala with crushing poverty except for the connected people.
Socialism was tried in Jamestown, Va., over 400 years ago. Everyone received an equal share of the profits made for the investors in England. But those who didn't work received the same as those that worked hard. There was no incentive to do more than anyone else. Jamestown almost failed due to socialism. But when people could be rewarded for their productivity, thanks to capitalism, the investors received more products and the people were better off.
Many claim that Jesus and the early church were socialistic. But they forget that one of Jesus' parables was about three men receiving certain amounts of money from their employer before he left for a trip. Two of the men made a profit, thanks to capitalism, while the third man buried his money. When their employer returned, the two men who made profit were rewarded while the one who buried his money had to give it to the one that made the most profit. Maybe the third man was a socialist.
Capitalism has produced hundreds of billionaires while socialism has produced crushing poverty. I've supported an economic system I call “applied capitalism” since 1980 which makes people and the government economic partners to produce mutual economic success. Even Social Security — which many experts say will run out of money within my lifetime — would benefit from my system and flourish. Would you rather live in a capitalist nation like America and become a billionaire who can keep most of his money or live in a socialist nation and be punished with high taxes for being successful?
Don't be deceived by the rosy promises of socialism. That expensive pie in the sky that socialists offer is still mud and won't taste good no matter how hard the salesmen promote it.
