Zoners OK 2 Requests
By Dan [email protected]
One petition involved a beauty shop and the other was for a longtime auto repair business.
The board approved a request for a special exception for Nicole Moorhouse, who is moving an existing beauty shop business to 1934 E. Center St.
Based on the number of employees, such businesses are supposed to have enough parking to accommodate 16 vehicles, according to city zoning policy. The current plan includes 11 parking spaces.
Moorhouse said they normally only have two or three customers at a time.
The plan department supported the request for a special exception, which was approved unanimously.
The board also supported a request for Global Auto to expand its auto repair business at 802 S. Buffalo St.
Auto repair shops can be permitted within a C2 zone with the approval of a variance, but that never had happened with the Global Auto during its 23-year history.
The city recently realized the company was an “existing nonconforming” operation when it approached the city about expansion plans.
Assistant City Planner Justin Taylor said the business has been cooperative and worked to come into compliance.
The business plans to construct a second floor for office space. A spokesman for the company said the improvements will result in a better exterior appearance.
