Claypool Water Utility Rates

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING RATES AND CHARGES FOR THE USE OF AND SERVICES RENDERED BY THE WATER UTILITY OF THE TOWN OF CLAYPOOL

    WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Claypool, Indiana, finds that the existing rates and charges for the use of the service rendered by the waterworks of said Town are too low and are insufficient to enable the Town to properly operate and maintain its waterworks plant, provide for depreciation, and finance necessary extensions, betterments and improvements to the system and that the existing rates and Charges should be increased; and,

    WHEREAS, the rates and charges are not sufficient to meet the reasonable financial requirement of the utility and that water rates and charges should be increased on an "across- the-board" basis; now, therefore,         BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF CLAYPOOL, INDIANA:

    Section 1. That there shall be and there are hereby established for the use of and the service rendered by the waterworks system of the Town of Claypool, Indiana the rates and charges presented in Exhibit A, based on the us of water supplied by said waterworks system;

    A tap charge shall be collected from each customer prior to connection to the water system, in an amount sufficient to reimburse the Town for the labor and material necessary for tapping the main and installation of service from main to the curb stop and the cost of furnishing and installing a suitable water mater.

    The charge for a 5/8" - 3/4" installation shall be in the amount of $800.00. The charge for a 1" or larger service shall be the labor and material costs incurred; in no event shall the charge be less than $800.00.

    Effective Date

    These rates shall be effective upon adoption of this Ordinance.

    Section 2. For the purpose of billing and collecting charges for water use, the meters shall be read monthly and the users shall be billed monthly. Failure to make payment by due date shall result in a 25% penalty added to the customer's water bill or any balance thereon for each month the water bill or any portion remains unpaid.

    Section 3. All ordinance and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed; provided, however, that the existing schedule of water rates and charges shall remain in full force and effect until the schedule of rates and charges fixed by this ordinance shall be approved by the Town Council, and until such time as the Town Council approves said new rates and charges.
