Kosciusko County Retired Teachers

Kosciusko County Retired Teachers had their summer meeting on Tuesday at Miller’s Senior Living Center.

The meeting was called to order by Co-Presidents Jill Bieler and Sandra Kunce. Grace and Rik Lovelady provided piano music with guitar accompaniment. Guest Kathy Kinch was welcomed.

Following lunch, Dan Kuhn from Habitat for Humanity shared information and stories about the Kosciusko unit. The group builds two to three houses each year in Kosciusko County with the help of many volunteers and donations of materials and money. Some area churches and clubs also provide food for workers and off-site help as needed.

During the business meeting, Connie Stavropulos shared the group’s scrapbooks and asked for help with the ongoing project.

At the June state meeting for the Indiana Retired Teachers, Sara Hawblitzel, our webmaster, accepted the honorable mention award given to Kosciusko County for its website. Anyone interested in attending the state’s fall meeting on Oct. 1 should contact Jill or Sandra.

Members were reminded to keep track of volunteer hours for the December count.

Door prizes were won by Rik Lovelady, Deloris Roberts and Carol Plew.

Class reunion humor was shared by Bill Landrigan.

Next meeting will be Sept. 11 with Martin Becker.

Pierceton Senior Citizens

PIERCETON — Nine members met June 18 at the Senior Center. After the carry-in dinner, John shared 11 “funnies" about whistling, a public pool and what nurses hear from patients.

During the business portion of the meeting, Carolyn reported that the group’s balance is $82.48.

Since Real Services is no longer serving meals at the center, representatives of the town of Pierceton are asking to rent the large room. Members were given a copy of the agreement between the town and the Pierceton Senior Citizens organization. They discussed each item, with emphasis on continued responsibility of the organization if the large room and kitchen are rented. Matt and Jerry from the town were present to listen to concerns. They invited the membership to a listening session with the entire council on June 20, and John and Elaine had planned to attend. Before any permanent changes are made to the agreement, their lawyer and our membership must review it.

Dr. De Young will be coming next month for our annual “class.” This year he will share information on Indiana weather.

The group adjourned after the Pledge of Allegiance.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday. Anyone 55 and older is invited to the carry-in dinner.
