The Warsaw man who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint on Anchorage Road Wednesday morning has been arrested and is facing a level 3 felony of robbery with a deadly weapon and a level 6 felony of theft.

The suspect denies he robbed her at all, but helped her with a drug deal.

Timothy L. Bowen Jr., 27, of 2441 W. CR 250S, Lot 87, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday on warrants for driving while suspended, failure to stop after an accident, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content between .08 to .15, battery causing bodily injury, intimidation, criminal mischief, failure to appear and driving while suspended. His preliminary bond for those charges was $3,247.82.

On Friday, his arrest record was amended to reflect charges of robbery and theft, and his bond was set at $20,250.

According to court documents, Warsaw Police Department officer Paul Heaton was made aware by Warsaw police officers of an armed robbery that occurred at about 6:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Officer Samuel Weaver met with the victim who said she was speaking to Bowen on Facebook and told him she was going to walk to Walmart. Bowen said he would give her a ride. Bowen picked her up outside American Legion Post 49. They went to a gas station, then a fast-food restaurant.

Bowen then turned onto Anchorage Road for a reason unknown to the victim. Bowen slammed on his breaks and stopped in the road, according to court documents. He then put a handgun to the left side of the victim’s face and she recalled seeing a flash of silver on the gun. Bowen allegedly stole $160 and her cellphone.

The victim was able to open the door and get out of the vehicle. As Bowen’s vehicle left, the victim said she thought it struck the right side of her face.

The victim said Bowen was driving a silver Mercury Mountaineer.

Winona Lake Police Department Deputy Mike Foster found a gray Mercury Mountaineer in Fairlane Mobile Home Park. When officers arrived at the residence, the back door opened and a white man – later identified as Bowen – exited. He was ordered to stop and he complied. Weaver noticed the man had money in his hand, which was counted and totaled $138.

The owner of the trailer, Dan Trump, gave consent for police to search his residence. Inside the bathroom, officers found a black handgun that did not belong to Trump.

Heaton interviewed Bowen at the WPD where Bowen admitted to giving the victim a ride but said he didn’t rob her. He said he was giving the victim a ride so she could pick up “dope” that he arranged for her to buy.

Bowen said he used her cellphone to talk to the other drug dealers, and said he only saw the money she had when he took a picture of it to show the other dealers.

He said he dropped the victim off at a house on Bluewater Drive. He said he left in the vehicle after dropping her off at her house.
