Michigan Man Charged In Thefts From Storage Units

Andrew James Futymoski, 28, Schoolcraft, Mich., was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. His bond was set at $11,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Kosciusko Circuit/Superior I Court, the eight charges against him include four counts of burglary, all level 5 felonies; three counts of theft, Class A misdemeanors; and theft, a level 6 felony.
On Oct. 10, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer Jon Tyler responded to a burglary, theft and criminal mischief at Packrat Storage. Upon arrival, he spoke with a woman who said unknown suspects cut the lock on her storage unit. She said she could find no items missing. The officer checked the other units and found numerous locks had been cut off of unit doors.
On Oct. 7, Ligonier Police Department officer Brandon Stout conducted a traffic stop and identified the occupants as Futymoski and Christina Swinehart. The occupants admitted to stealing property out of storage units in Kosciusko County. Stout found a .25 caliber handgun and bolt cutters inside the vehicle.
Shane Bucher, KCSD officer, was able to identify the victims who had items stolen from Packrat Storage units. He spoke with a man who had reported his storage unit had a lock cut off. Stolen items included toy antique fire trucks, a Bible with his name on it and miscellaneous documents. Bucher found the Bible and documents in the vehicle being driven by Futymoski and Swinehart.
Bucher then spoke with another woman who said her storage unit had the lock cut off and had a bag of jewelry, two Brinks fire safes and miscellaneous paperwork taken from it. The victim’s items also were found in Futymoski and Swinehart’s vehicle.
Another man said items stolen from his storage unit included a Reck P8 .25 caliber handgun, gun cleaning supplies, ammunition, a Bible, and a German Mauser .25 caliber pistol. He was able to identify his items that were found in the suspects’ vehicle.
Officers then spoke with another male victim who reported an Evinrude boat motor and fishing tackle stolen from his storage unit. He also was able to identify his items.
When Bucher spoke with Futymoski, Futymoski admitted he and Swinehart cut the locks and entered the storage units at Packrat Storage on Oct. 6. He said they then stole the items.
Swinehart was arrested on a burglary charge on Dec. 29.
