Trojan Wrestlers Secure 3rd Straight Conference Title
CULVER – Triton had three weight-class champions and won its third straight Hoosier North Athletic Conference wrestling title Saturday at Culver Community High School. The Trojans’ 242 points outpaced LaVille at 219 and Winamac at 173.
Champions for Triton were Nate Riggins (132 pounds), Vincent Helton (160) and James Snyder (170). Second-place finishers were D’Angelo Shumpert (113), Bryce Coppes (126), Ryan Snyder (152) and Billy Smith (285).
Connor Pitney (120), Riley Chickering (145) and Shelton Rolston (220) placed third, and Alejandra Cabrera (138) and Ethan Berry (195) had fourth-place finishes.
Next up for Triton is the Plymouth Sectional on Saturday.
Warriors 3rd, Tigers 8th at NLC Meet
NAPPANEE – The Northern Lakes Conference held its conference wrestling tournament at Northwood on Saturday. Wawasee earned a third-place finish, with Warsaw receiving eighth.
The Warriors had seven wrestlers finish in the top four of their weight classes, having three secure first-place victories. Geremia Brooks in the 132-weight class, Damien Rodriquez in the 195-weight class and Elisha Tipping in the heavyweight class were all champions.
Jace Alexander, Brenden Stockman and Xavier Ortiz garnered runner-up nods for Wawasee. Ricardo Romo recorded a third-place result at the tournament.
Senior Dillon Estepp led the Tigers at the event, capturing third place in the heavyweight division.
Juniors Grayson Drudge and Gavin Truex stood on the podium for fourth-place nods in their respective classes.
Both schools are back in action Saturday at the Plymouth Sectional.
Squires Third At TRC Tournament
BUNKER HILL – The Three Rivers Conference held its wrestling tournament on Saturday at Maconaquah. Manchester finished fifth and Tippecanoe Valley and Whitko ended eight and ninth, respectively.
The Squires had seven wrestlers finish in the top four of their weight classes. Wade France and Delton Moore tallied runner-up results to lead the team.
Elijah Burlingame, Juan Ramirez and Bryce Kamphues ended the tourney with third-place marks, while Andrew Cagle and Tyce Rooney finished fourth.
For the Vikings, Seth Hoffman captured second place for their only top-four placing of the event, going 2-1.
Kaleb Busz went 3-0 to stand atop the podium in first place for the Wildcats.
Kyle Reed and Logan Busz collected third at the event.
Manchester will compete Saturday at the Peru Sectional. Valley will travel to Plymouth for its sectional and Whikto will travel to Huntertown for the Carroll Sectional.
