West’s Double-Double Sends Whitko Past Northfield

WABASH – Whitko senior River West had a double-double Friday night to send the Wildcats to a 67-64 overtime victory at Northfield in a Three Rivers Conference boys basketball thriller.

West drained a three-pointer to give Whitko a 65-64 lead with 4.3 seconds to go in the overtime.

The host Norse trailed 42-29 at halftime before outscoring Whitko 16-5 in the third quarter and closing to within two points. The Wildcats led 57-49 with four minutes to play and still had a 58-53 lead with 64 seconds to go.

Brett Sickafoose had 17 points and Brian Collins added 10 points for Whitko. Spencer Sroufe gathered seven rebounds in the winning effort.

Now 6-10 overall and tied for third in the conference with a 3-1 record, Whitko travels to Southwood for a TRC game Tuesday.

Big 3rd Quarter Boosts Manchester Over Zebras

ROCHESTER – After playing host Rochester to a 16-all tie at halftime, Manchester outscored the Zebras 20-8 in the third quarter and went on to claim a 58-43 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball win Friday night.

Freshman Weston Hamby hit a trio of three-pointers on his way to a team-high 18 points for Manchester. His brother Mason added 13 points and Kam Lester had 10 for the Squires.

Rochester’s Jordan Reinholt led all scorers with 24 points.

The Zebras won the junior varsity game 53-48 in overtime over the Squires.

Manchester improved to 5-7 overall and leveled its conference record at 2-2. The Squires will host Bellmont in a non-conference contest Tuesday.

Lady Squires Fall In Key Conference Matchup

ROCHESTER – In a game between one-loss Three Rivers Conference girls basketball teams, Manchester fell 40-27 to host Rochester Friday night.

Rochester scrambled out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter and led 25-14 at halftime. Manchester had an opportunity to draw closer in the third quarter, holding the Lady Zebras scoreless but putting just six points on the board themselves.

Eva Bazzoni had 10 points to lead the Lady Squires, and Kennedy Fierstos added nine points.

“A rough shooting night for us was the difference in the game,” Lady Squire coach Jacob Everett said. “Rochester came out and hit some shots early. We were able to fight our way back to pull within five but couldn’t get any closer.”

Manchester won the junior varsity game 41-22 over the Lady Zebras. Ranissa Shambarger had 17 points in the winning effort.

The Lady Tigers will play again this afternoon, hosting Peru in a conference game postponed Jan. 10. The junior varsity game tips off at noon.

LAKEVILLE – Triton’s boys basketball team exacted a measure of revenge Friday night, beating Culver Community 38-34 in a consolation game of the Bi-County Tournament at LaVille High School.

The Cavaliers downed Triton 42-33 in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game Jan. 12.

Statistics for the game were not available as of press time.

Now 5-6, Triton will host Elkhart Christian Tuesday night.

WABASH – Cam Parker scored 16 points and Tanner Trippiedi added 11 for Tippecanoe Valley in its 79-47 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball loss at Southwood Friday night.

Peyton Trexler had a game-high 24 for the conference-leading Knights. Matthew Nose had 18 and Carson Blair 16 points for Southwood.
