SYRACUSE — Graham R. Meier, 88, Syracuse, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Milford (Decatur County) to Raymond Curtis and Ora Mildred Graham Meier.

He graduated in 1947 from Greensburg High School and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in agriculture and education from Purdue University in West Lafayette.

He was married April 2, 1951, in Biloxi, Miss., to Wilma L. Goins, who preceded him on March 5, 2015.

He was a United States Korean Air Force veteran and moved to Syracuse in 1971 from Economy.  

He was a retired teacher who taught industrial arts at Hagerstown for one year, agriculture and general science at New Washington for seven years, Madison Consolidated High School for one year, Triton Central High School for two years, Warsaw High School for six years, and was a substitute teacher for Wawasee Community Schools for many years. He was also formerly employed at Chore Time and Maple Leaf Feed Mill, both of Milford.

He was a member of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, Syracuse, and Wawasee Camp of Gideons International, Syracuse, and a former member of Milford Lions Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Katherine (Phil Herbertz) Parker, Plainfield, and Carol (Ray) Spires, Elkhart; three sons: Gary Meier, Syracuse; Jerry Meier, Scottsburg; and Joseph Meier, Elkhart; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathleen Robbins, Scottsburg, and Vera (Mike) Lewis, Canyon City, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Mary Jane Taylor.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, 504 S. Syracuse-Webster Road, Syracuse, with Pastor Pat Park officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
