Two children in the car were not injured.
According to information from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, a BMW driven by Kyra Berkeypile, 20, Nappanee, slid off the road and came to rest in a ditch in the 1900 block of CR 900N, east of Orn Road, Milford.
A semi tractor-trailer, driven by Scott Couch, 44, Columbia City, then hit the same area in the roadway, went off the road and rolled over, with the trailer coming to rest on top of the car.
Both vehicles were totaled, according to the KCSD.
Couch complained of pain to his back and was transported to a hospital. Berkeypile had cuts to her lower arm and hand was transported to a local hospital.
The children in Berkeypile’s car were not injured and were in child restraint seats. Officers removed the kids from the seats to avoid any injuries to them should the vehicles settle.
The semi tractor-trailer was transporting ducks, but the livestock appeared to be fine.
Central Dispatch received the 911 call at 4:59 a.m., with a KCSD officer arriving on the scene at 5:02 a.m.
Assisting the KCSD at the scene was the Lutheran EMS.
