The funding will offset the required cloud-based digital evidence storage needed for the Axon body cameras that are used by the Pierceton Police Department. The funding will be facilitated over a five-year term, according to a news release from the PPD.
Lifeline has a campus based in Pierceton called Pierceton Woods Academy. This campus is Lifeline's residential facility for youth who have been removed from their home and placed with Lifeline through agencies such as the Department of Correction, Department of Child Services or Probation.
Mike Martin, vice president of fiscal administration at Lifeline Youth and Family Services, Fort Wayne, approached Tim Sammons, town marshal for the Pierceton police, inquiring about opportunities that Lifeline Youth and Family Services could do to help off-set the cost associated with the body camera project.
Sammons explained that Kosciusko County Prosecutor Dan Hampton and his office initially funding the cost to purchase the body cameras. However, the evidence-base footage must be securely stored and the cloud-base storage offered by Evidence.com is very expensive. After several conversations between Sammons, Martin and the I.T. Department at Lifeline Youth and Family Services, it was decided that the evidence-based cloud storage offered by Evidence.com was the best solution.
The project was taken in front of the Pierceton Town Council for approval. The council members agreed to move forward with Lifeline's proposal, and the technology offered by Evidence.com.
Sammons stated that he and his department are “very grateful for the generous contributions received from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office and Lifeline Youth and Family Services,” the press release states.
