CULVER – Triton’s girls rolled to victory, and the Trojan boys made a comeback effort but fell short in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader at Culver Community Friday night. The girls won 54-10, while the boys fell 42-33 to the Cavaliers.

Hannah Wanemacher scored 20 points to pace the Lady Trojans, who led 30-2 at halftime. Delanie Groves had 10 points and Charlotte Morris added nine points off the bench. Every Triton girl in uniform played at least four minutes in the game.

Triton scored 18 points in the first quarter, then 12 in each of the remaining three periods.

The Lady Trojans remain in contention for the conference title with a 5-1 record, behind Knox at 4-0 and North Judson at 2-0. Triton improved to 9-10 overall.

In the boys game, Triton trailed 24-14 at halftime, then held Culver to one point in the third quarter while cutting the deficit to 25-24. The Cavaliers outscored the Trojans 17-9 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.

Ross Johnson had a game-high 17 points for Triton. Beau Hepler had seven points, Quentin Thornburg had five, with Drew Stichter and Lucas Richman adding two points each to round out the Triton scoring.

The Cavaliers were led by Kia Riale’s 12 points, with Donovan Ziaja adding seven and R.T. Roberts dropping in six points.

The Trojans fell to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the HNAC.

Both Trojan teams open play in the Bi-County Tournament Tuesday at Bremen.

Trojans Announce Boys Hoops Venue Changes

BOURBON – Because of the flooding in the Triton High School gym about a week ago, Trojan Athletic Director Mason McIntyre had to find places to host home boys basketball regular season games.

The Elkhart Christian game on Jan. 23 will be played at Triton Elementary School.

A Hoosier North Athletic Conference game with North Judson was moved from Jan. 27 to Jan. 29 and will be played at Plymouth High School. The remaining games (Feb. 1 vs. Argos, Feb. 9 vs. LaVille, Feb. 13 vs. Rochester and Feb. 23 vs. Knox) will be played on the days originally scheduled at Plymouth.

Triton’s girls basketball home schedule has been completed.

There’s no word on relocating the wrestling match with Northfield on Wednesday, the HNAC Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 20, the boys basketball sectional Feb. 27-March 3 and the basketball regional March 10.



Area Postponements

Several Times-Union area basketball games scheduled for Friday were postponed due to the weather.

Rochester and host Tippecanoe Valley’s Three Rivers Conference boys game was moved to Feb. 3, with the junior varsity game starting at noon.

Whitko’s game at Southwood was rescheduled for Jan. 23, with the “C-Team” game starting at 5 p.m.

Manchester’s TRC game at Southwood was moved to Feb. 3, with the JV tipping off at 1 p.m.
