A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing a gun, related accessories and electronics from a Kosciusko County man he had been staying with.

Jacob Bonds Honea, 23, of 4535 N. Ind. 13, Leesburg, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:49 p.m. Thursday on the preliminary charge of theft. His bond was set at $3,000 surety and $1,000 cash.

Court documents indicate Honea’s address is 4969 W. CR 1000N, Roann.

A probable cause affidavit states that on Oct. 9, a Syracuse Police Department officer spoke with a Kosciusko County man – age and address not listed – who said somebody stole his semi-automatic Glock 19 9MM pistol, three 15-round magazines, one 30-round magazine, three holsters, a Playstation 4, computer and other items valued at over $2,000. There was no evidence of forced entry into the residence.

The man said Honea had been staying at the residence and had a key.

On Oct. 13, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Detective Todd Sautter performed a controlled purchase of a Glock 19 semi-auto pistol believed to be the one stolen from the victim. Officers purchased the stolen Glock 19 from Ramon Hart II for approximately $300. Once the purchase was made, officers arrested Hart on an active warrant and also detained a woman, the court documents state.

Upon taking Hart into custody, the Glock 19 handgun was found in the front passenger seat floorboard of the vehicle where the unnamed woman had been seated.

Officers also found an opened backpack containing three 15-round magazines, one 30-round magazines, and the three holsters. The magazines were loaded with ammunition. All items were identified as the victim’s.

Officers spoke with Hart who said he was at Honea’s residence and saw the handgun and other items. He said he purchased the Playstation for $200 and was going to sell the handgun for Honea. Hart sold the Playstation to Mega Replay in Fort Wayne, according to court documents.

On Oct. 20, the victim contacted the Syracuse police officer and said he met with his wife and Honea and had recorded the conversation, which he provided to the officer.

In the recording, Honea admitted stealing the gun and other items from the victim’s residence. He said he wiped his fingerprints off the gun with a bandanna. The victim’s wife said Hart has the stolen items.
