Cougars Down North Miami For 1st Win Over 2A Team
WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian’s boys basketball team did something it hadn’t accomplished in its six years as a member of the IHSAA; win a game against a school bigger than Class 1A.
Josh McDaniel and Jake Harmon had 19 points each for the host Cougars in their 60-54 victory over 2A North Miami in a non-conference game Tuesday night.
Braxton Keller and Landon Twombly added seven points each in the winning effort. Eli Raymond and Harmon led the Cougars with seven rebounds each, and McDaniel and Twombly pulled down six rebounds each.
Next up for Lakeland Christian is a Hoosier Plains Conference home game with South Bend Trinity at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Lady Cougars Cruise To Win
LIGONIER – Nine players scored for Lakeland Christian, led by Hope Fancil with 25 points, in the Lady Cougars’ 69-17 win over host Cornerstone Christian at West Noble Middle School Tuesday.
Anna Reimink had 14 points and Tori Calizo 11 for Lakeland Christian. Nine players also collected at least one rebound, led by Fancil with five and Calizo, Maddie Paris, Brady Gross and Lauren Starrett with three boards each.
The Lady Cougars improved to 9-7 on the season. They travel to Mishawaka Christian on Thursday.

Squires Drop Tight Contest To Maconaquah
NORTH MANCHESTER – Weston Hamby had 13 points to pace Manchester in its 39-36 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball loss to visiting Maconaquah Tuesday night.
The Squires led 22-21 at halftime, then were outscored 10-6 by the Braves in the third quarter. Both teams scored eight points in the final period.
Koehl Fluke had seven points, Mason Hamby added six and Kam Lester five points for the Squires.
“We just needed a few more shots to fall. It’s hard to win when you shoot 28 percent from the field,” said Manchester coach Mark Underwood. “To shoot that poorly and still come within three points of a very good Maconaquah team means that you are doing a lot of other things right. I’m really proud of these guys.”
In the junior varsity game, Caleb Stout scored 12 points and Kreeden Krull added 11 more for Manchester in its 48-28 win.
Next up for the Squires (4-7, 1-2 TRC) is a conference game at Wabash Friday night.

COLUMBIA CITY – After leading 29-25 through three quarters, Wawasee’s girls basketball team lost 39-36 at Columbia City Tuesday night.
Casey Schroeder had 17 points for the Warriors, including a 5-of-6 effort from the free throw line. The rest of the Lady Warriors went 3 of 10 from the charity stripe, while the Lady Eagles hit just 5 of 13 of their freebies.
Kabrea Rostochak had eight points, Aubrey Kuhn seven and Hannah-Marie Lamle four points to round out the Wawasee scoring.
In the junior varsity contest, Columbia City won 39-36, the identical score of the varsity game. Wawasee’s Morgan Adkins had seven points, with Jadison Rostochak, Abby Steiner and Madison Mottern adding six points each.

Wawasee Gymnasts Edge Lady Hornets
SYRACUSE – Reagan Atwood was the all-around winner and helped Wawasee to a 102.475-100.275 win over visiting Angola in a gymnastics meet Tuesday night.
Atwood was first in the uneven bars, beam and floor exercise and took second in the vault. Jada Parzygnot was second in the uneven bars and floor ex, taking third in the all-around. Megan Beer was second on the beam for Wawasee.
Wawasee will host Carroll for a dual meet on Thursday.
Rochester Swimmers Sweep Valley In TRC Meet
AKRON – Visiting Rochester took two Three Rivers Conference swimming wins at Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday. The Lady Vikings fell 113-70 and the boys team dropped a 98-83 decision.
Mayde Fear was a double winner for the Lady Vikings, taking the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Olivia Livengood was first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 200 individual medley. Jerzey Conley was second in the 200 and 500 free. Ava Craig was second in the 100 free and third in the 200 free, and Chloe Hostetler was third in the 500 free. Livengood, Conley, Fear and Shelby Baker teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay.
Chase Brower had a pair of wins, in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, for the Viking boys. Daniel Alexander won the 500 free and was third in the 200 IM. Dakota Prater won the butterfly and finished second in the 200 free, while Travis Shull won the diving. Prater, Alexander, Brower and Mason Stephen won the 200 medley relay for Valley.
Next up for Valley is the Oak Hill Invitational on Saturday.
