I am writing this letter to you as a lifelong resident of Kosciusko County, a retired Warsaw police officer and a friend of Sheriff William ''Rocky" Goshert.

Ten years ago, I retired from the Warsaw Police Department, after serving for 34 years in various capacities, culminating as police chief under Mayor Ernie Wiggins. During my tenure with the department, I had the opportunity to be a member of various local governmental boards and committees that interacted with all of the other law enforcement agencies that served the citizens of Kosciusko County.

It was a truly rewarding experience and gave me the opportunity to work closely with those men and women who do, on a daily basis, serve and protect the citizens of this county. I was honored to count myself among such a group and quickly learned that a "good" police officer is much more than someone who just wears the uniform. I quickly learned that a "good" police officer must be dedicated to the service of the community in which he or she lives and to the protection of its residents. The "good" officer must be well-trained, exhibit patience, have a great degree of common sense, and be willing to make personal and family sacrifices that are required by the nature of the work.

Please understand that these observations are not to be considered as any reflection of my own abilities, or lack thereof, while I served, but rather a candid recitation of those character traits of those police officers that I came to personally admire and sought to emulate.

One of those "good" police officers that I had the honor of working with during my career was William ''Rocky" Goshert, the current Kosciusko County sheriff. He is the personification of a "good" police officer.

The purpose of this letter is to share with you my heartfelt endorsement of Rocky Goshert in his quest to be re-elected as the sheriff of Kosciusko County. I have known Rocky, both personally and professionally, for more than 30 years.  I can truly say that he is among those individuals that I am honored to call my friend.
