Dennis Eugene Holder Sr., 69, passed away at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, Tenn.

He was born Feb. 2, 1948, in Kokomo, to Frederick Levi and Barbara Jean Knight Holder.

He grew up in Kokomo, graduated in 1966 from Western High School in Kokomo, received his B.A. & master’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, and served in the United States Air Force.

He retired as a health and physical education teacher and coach. He formerly taught at Western High School in Kokomo, Connersville High School, Kokomo High School, South Bend Adams High School and Polk State College in Winter Haven, Fla.

He was the pool director at Warsaw Community High School for several years. He lived in the Warsaw area from 1988 until 2009, when he moved to Florida and then Tennessee.

He is survived by a daughter, Sarah (Jeb) Freeman, Milford; two sons, Joel (Tanya) Holder, Leesburg, and Dennis (Shawnee) Holder Jr., Lemon Grove, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and his father, Fred (Bea) Holder, Fort Myers, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A celebration of life gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw. Burial will take place in Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
