He was born in Lafayette on Jan. 14, 1935, the son of Sam and Katherine Funk Shirk. He was married Nov. 15, 2003, to Sherry Gilliam, who survives.
He was retired from Sprint Telephone as a public relations manager. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Masonic Lodge for 50 years, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Scottish Rite and Portland Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Sherry Gilliam-Shirk; stepson, Jeffery Gilliam, Carmel; and stepdaughter, Linda Gilliam, Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Shirk, and brother, Milton Howard Shirk.
There are no funeral services. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, is in charge of arrangements.
