LARWILL – Whitko parents received notification this morning from the school corporation that a threat to the middle school was a “hoax.”

According to the emailed message, which also was put on the school corporation’s website, the threat to WMS was received this morning.

“It has been confirmed that this was a hoax. We have taken proper measures and have an increased police presence at our schools to ensure the safety of our students as we take these threats very seriously. School is continuing as usual and all students are safe,” the notification to parents states.

Whitko Superintendent Steve Clason added, “We had a rumor of a threat delivered by email. It was just a rumor. We put our safety plan in place, which includes a police presence here.”

After investigating the rumor, Clason said it was determined to be unsubstantiated and there was no threat. He said it wasn’t “super directed” but it implied a shooting of some sort.

“These rumors are running rampant all over the U.S. and we are no different. There were some in Fort Wayne recently. We are thankful for the police cooperation with us and all is well,” Clason said.
