On Tuesday, a report was filed with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department about a student threatening to do harm to others, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department news release issued Wednesday afternoon.
The threat was made over social media and indicated the acts were to take place on Wednesday.
An investigation was launched by the Fulton and Kosciusko county sheriff’s departments. The juvenile was identified and apprehended Tuesday night without incident, the release states.
Authorities say the student made specific threats to harm others on social media.
KCSD Public Information Officer and Capt. Chris McKeand said the student lives in Fulton County. Fulton County will handle any charges against the student.
“Fulton County got the tip and made us aware of it because the school is in our jurisdiction. We found the kid and took him into custody,” McKeand said.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deployed several additional resources throughout the school corporation Wednesday morning to “allow a safe and secure environment,” the release said.
McKeand said, “We had a lot of our resources down there – undercover and in uniform” to make sure there wasn’t any additional threats law enforcement wasn’t aware of at that time. “Everything turned out to be fine.”
The investigation is ongoing and additional safety measures are in place at the school corporation to ensure the safety of students and staff. Parents and students are encouraged to contact law enforcement and school officials if they see or hear something suspicious or see an inappropriate social media post of any kind.
Assisting the sheriff’s departments were the Rochester City Police Department, Fulton County Probation Department and TVSC.
