He was born July 4, 1932, in Milford, to Floyd and Mary Miller Silveus. On Feb. 8, 1957, in Columbia City, he married Lula F. Setser. She survives.
He retired in 1995 from Dana Corp., Syracuse, after 34 years with the company.
He was member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion Post of Pierceton.
Richard had been an active volunteer for the American Red Cross. He enjoyed spending time fishing and metal detecting.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Silveus, Mentone; a daughter, Mari Stoffey, Minnesota; two sons, James Richard Silveus, Reno, Nev., and Kenneth Lee (wife Johanna) Silveus, Pierceton; and two grandchildren, Jacob Lee and Tori Jo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. Pastor David Cripe will officiate. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, with military graveside rites performed by North Webster American Legion Post 253
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at King Memorial Home.
