Whitko‘s River West Eclipses 1,500 Career-Point Mark
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko concluded its boys basketball regular season in a 53-40 loss to Heritage on Thursday.
Senior River West poured in 23 points, pushing his career total over 1,500 points. He’s the third player in school history to obtain the achievement.
Logan Irwin, a 2012 Whitko grad, tallied 2,230 career points and 2017 Whitko grad Nate Walpole has 1,977 career points.
The Wildcats (9-15) couldn’t slow down the Patriot (16-4) offense, allowing double-digit scoring outputs in all four quarters of play.
Senior Clayton Ebbinghouse and freshman Brett Sickafoose added five points each for Whitko.
The Wildcats will play Bremen on Tuesday to begin the postseason in Class 2A Sectional 35. They will play at Westview and tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

LCA Captures Hoosier Plains Title
SOUTH BEND – Lakeland Christian Academy won 56-49 over South Bend Career Academy on Thursday. The Cougars won the Hoosier Plains Conference with the victory, finishing with a 5-0 record in league play.
LCA (12-11, 5-0 HPC) saw itself down early in the contest, trailing 9-6 after the first period. The Trailblazers (5-17, 2-3 HPC) kept pace and won the second quarter as well, pushing the lead to 25-17 at intermission.
After the break, junior Jake Harmon scored the first eight points of the period for LCA, helping the team close the gap.
Harmon drained a three-pointer to begin the fourth quarter, helping the Cougars go on a 9-0 run to begin the final eight minutes of action.
Senior Josh McDaniel tallied 12 points in the last stanza, as LCA outscored South Bend Career Academy 22-11 to secure the win and the conference title.
McDaniel ended the game with a career-best 32 points, Harmon scored 15 points and had five assists. Junior Landon Twombly had eight rebounds.
The Cougars begin sectional play on Wednesday against Fort Wayne Smith Academy. The teams will play at Hamilton and will start at 7:30 p.m.

Valley Loses TRC Matchup
BUNKER HILL – The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings were defeated 40-33 by Three Rivers Conference foe Maconaquah on Thursday.
The boys basketball contest started slow for both teams. Valley (5-16, 2-7 TRC) only scored eight points in the opening half and the Braves (15-6, 7-1 TRC) tallied 12.
The Vikings shot 18 percent in the first half, but turned things around in the third quarter, as the team shot 62 percent and scored 17 points. Maconaquah went on a run and put 20 points on the scoreboard in the stanza, increasing the lead to 32-25.
Both teams made three baskets in the fourth period and scored eight points each.
Junior Alex Morrison scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Valley. Sophomore Tanner Trippiedi tallied seven points.
The Vikings will travel to Wawasee tonight for the last regular season game before sectional play starts. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Triton Falls To Bremen
BREMEN – Triton’s late comeback against Bremen fell short on Thursday, losing 43-41 in boys basketball nonconference play.
The Trojans (6-14) shot 24 percent in the first half, scoring 18 points. The Lions (5-16) made 35 percent of their shot attempts in the opening half.
Triton couldn’t get the three-point shot working, making only 17 percent of its attempts.
In the second half, the Trojans improved their aim and made 33 percent of the attempts. Triton scored 23 points in the second half, outscoring Bremen by one.
The Lions outrebounded Triton 36-18 in the contest.
Triton senior Ross Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed six boards. Senior Dylan Hensley had 10 points and three rebounds.
Triton’s game against Knox tonight has been canceled due to flooding in the area. The Trojans will begin sectional play on Tuesday against South Central. The sectional is hosted by Culver Community.
