He was born in Warsaw on Dec. 16, 1938, to Lester “Jack” Lane and Jules Blue Lane. The youngest of six Lane children, Lanny was raised in his family’s home and graduated from Warsaw High School.
He was drafted to service in the United States Army in 1962 and served in communication, attached to an armored division. In 1964 he was assigned to the U.S. Army Reserves, where he would serve an additional three years before being honorably discharged.
On Feb. 7, 1962, Lanny was bonded through holy matrimony to Sue Ann Bradbury. Together they shared 56 years.
Lanny worked at Uniroyal in Warsaw for 38 years before retiring in the early 2000s. He was a devout Christian who was known for his kindness and generosity, even extending help to complete strangers on many occasions.
He loved cars, especially classic cars, and frequently travelled to the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Festival and to the auction there.
For many years, Lanny and his family attended Wayside Baptist Church; Lanny served as a deacon there before they closed. He liked fishing, hunting and anything outdoors, and especially enjoyed bicycling with his grandchildren all over Warsaw. He was a bargain hunter, outdoorsman, Christian and a kind-hearted family man.
Those who are left with memories to treasure include his wife, Sue Lane, Warsaw; son, Michael Lane, Warsaw; and six grandchildren: Eric (Ashley) Lane, Atwood; Kristin Lane, Fort Wayne; Laurin Lane, Heflin, Ala.; Zachary Shepler, Warsaw; Jordan Lane, Mentone; and Connor Lane, Warsaw. He is also survived by two sisters, Marge Sprague and JoAnne Gilbert, Parker City; and five great-grandchildren.
His parents and three brothers – Zip Lane, Benny Lane and Max Lane – preceded him in passing.
Friends may join the family for a time of visitation at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, chaplain of Mason Health Care, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors rendered by members of American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126.
