Three Wrestlers Advance To State Meet For Wawasee
EAST CHICAGO – Tippecanoe Valley, Triton, Warsaw and Wawasee had wrestlers compete at the East Chicago Central Semistate on Saturday.
Wawasee was the only area school from this semistate to advance wrestlers to state.
Junior Geremia Brooks had the best placing of the day. He earned second in the 132-pound weight class. Freshman Jace Alexander moves on in the 106-pound weight class after finishing fourth. Senior Elisha Tipping (285) also had a fourth-place mark for the Warriors. All advance for Wawasee.
Junior Chris Schuller (120), junior Braxton Alexander (126) and junior Alex Castro (182) competed for Wawasee and picked up one win apiece, but did not qualify for the state finals.
Sophomore Garrett Stuckman (138), sophomore Isiah Faurote (145) and junior Damien Rodriguez (195) wrestled for the Warriors at semistate, but lost in the opening round.
Warsaw sophomore Isaiah Owens tried to make a run at a semistate title, but fell in the opening match of the 106-pound weight class.
Valley had sophomore Jacob Eherenman (138) and Triton had junior James Snyder (170) each lose in the first round. Eherenman lost to the eventual semistate champion and Snyder lost to a state qualifier.
The state finals first round begins on Friday at 6 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Moore Advances To State For Manchester
FORT WAYNE – Junior Delton Moore advances to the IHSAA state wrestling finals after placing third in the 170-pound weight class at semistate on Saturday.
Moore advanced through the first two rounds with pins against each opponent. In his third match of the day, Moore lost a close decision 9-6. In the deciding match, Moore won 9-0 over a wrestler from Homestead. The win makes sure Moore doesn’t face a semistate champion at the state meet this weekend.
The Squires also had senior Wade France compete at semistate on Saturday, but was unable to move on. The 152-pounder lost his opening-round match to the hands of a wrestler from Northridge. France ends his career with 78 total wins and three semistate appearances.
Moore will hit the mat on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
