Finding Hise to be indigent, as he has no job or other source of income, Cates appointed him an attorney and said his final pre-trial conference date was at 8:30 a.m. April 9.

Cates also entered a “not guilty” plea on Hise’s behalf.

Hise remained in custody in Kosciusko County Jail this morning.

On Jan. 30, Turkey Creek Fire Department responded to a house fire at 10322 N. Grand Blvd., Syracuse. The house was a total loss, with damage estimated at over $90,000.

The fire department determined the house fire had been intentionally set and requested the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigate.

The KCSD officer spoke with construction workers who saw two men walking toward the residence shortly before the fire. Hise and another man, not identified in court documents, were later found and identified as the two subjects spotted by the construction workers.

Hise allegedly admitted they broke into the residence, but said the other man used the lighter to set items on fire. Hise also admitted to vandalizing the home. Two lighters used to start the fire were later recovered from his home, court documents  said.
