By Staff Report-
A reserve police officer is a citizen volunteer who has been trained and qualified to perform the same duties as an officer having full law enforcement authority. Pierceton reserve officers are assigned to patrol duty, but may assist with other areas such as foot patrol during festivals and special events hosted by the community and the elementary school.
The applicant must have successfully completed or will complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Pre-Basic Training Course, as well as a strict field training/in-service training program. The pre-basic training course is 40 hours of provided training by officers accredited and certified in particular areas of law enforcement by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. The pre-basic training course traditionally consists of classroom training, physical tactics training, firearms training and qualification and emergency vehicle operations course training. Upon completion of the pre-basic training program, the reserve officer will then begin the field training program.
Reserve officer requirements: Must be a United States citizen; be at least 21 years of age; not have a felony conviction; have a clean driving and traffic record, with a valid Indiana driver's license; be willing to submit and pass a drug screen; be willing to work different shifts and some weekends; and be willing to work 16 hours a month.
Applications may be picked-up at the Pierceton Clerk/Treasurer's Office, 105 W. Walnut St., Pierceton IN 46562, during normal business hours. Completed applications must be returned to the Pierceton Clerk/Treasurer's Office by March 9.
