PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Sharon L. Keener, 83, Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Jan. 31, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Winchester. She graduated high school in Pierceton and went to the Lutheran School of Nursing, Fort Wayne, to obtain her R.N. degree in nursing. Her extensive 40-year nursing career included private duty nursing before finding her love in labor and delivery nursing as well as new mother/baby care, child birth classes and the nursery.

Sharon was obviously a champion nurse, but also held over 100 hundred trophies for car rallies and slalom racing in a 1968 Shelby GT Mustang that she raced for over 10 years with her husband, Tom. Sharon and Tom retired to warm sunny Florida, where they enjoyed many years of golf, cards and yard saleing with a host of special friends.

Survivors include her husband and high school sweetheart of 61 years, Tom Keener; two daughters, Vicki (Howard) Nelson, Benton, Ark., and Laura Keener, Punta Gorda; grandchildren: Christy (Mark) Renfroe, Lena, Miss.; Jennifer Nelson, Benton; and Tommy (Liz) Keener, Punta Gorda; and great-grandchildren: Nikolas Keener, Jack and Evan Renfroe, and Emily and Chloe Keener. Also left to miss her are her sweet dog Maggie and extra “grandson” Derek Perkins.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
