River West Pours In 33; Whitko Routs North Miami

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Wildcats kept the scoreboard operator busy Thursday night, winning 103-44 over North Miami in a boys basketball contest. 

The Three Rivers Conference showdown began with the Wildcats (8-12, 5-3 TRC) jumping out to a 26-4 lead in the first quarter. River West poured in 16 points in the period alone for Whitko.

North Miami (3-12, 0-7 TRC) was able to get more output from its offense in the second period, adding 12 points. The 12 points was overshadowed quickly by the Wildcats’ 38 points netted in the quarter. Whitko hit five three-pointers in the stanza and North Miami had two all game.

After the break, the Wildcats made five more triples to increase their lead to 83-28. River West tallied 33 points in the game, while only playing the first three periods.

Brett Sickafoose and Micah Cokl added 19 points. Brian Collins earned 17 points for Whitko. Spencer Sroufe led the team with 10 rebounds.

Whitko stays at home on Tuesday to play a nonconference contest against Southern Wells.

Wabash Beats Tippecanoe Valley In TRC Clash

WABASH – A hot start by the Wabash Apaches put a fire on Tippecanoe Valley’s chances of capturing its first Three Rivers Conference boys basketball win Thursday night. Wabash defeated the Vikings 67-32.

In the first quarter, the Apaches (9-6, 4-2) scored 25 points, more than Valley (2-14, 0-6 TRC) would score in the first three quarters combined. Valley shot 36 percent from the field and scored 11 points.

The Vikings allowed 45 points in the first half, giving up 20-plus points in each stanza. Valley shot a dismal 22 percent in the second quarter, tallying four points.

Wabash cooled off a little to begin the second half, but still netted 13 points and shot 45 percent. 

In the fourth quarter, Valley  outscored its TRC foe 11-9 and shot 40 percent. 

Wes Melanson had nine points and Parkur Dalrymple scored seven. Trenton Daughtry earned 22 points to lead Wabash.

Valley plays at home on Saturday against Rochester.

Five Score Double Figures To Lead Manchester

WABASH – The Manchester Squires now sit in a tie for third place in the Three Rivers Conference after it defeated Northfield 71-61 in a boys basketball matchup.

Manchester (9-7, 4-2 TRC) scored double digits in each period, while holding the Norsemen (4-11, 1-5 TRC) to single digits in the first quarter. 

The Squires took a 31-20 lead into the half. After the break, the team scored 19 points to increase its lead over Northfield. In the final frame, the Norsemen outscored Manchester 25-21, but the gap was too big to cross and the Squires sealed the win.

Koehl Fluke scored 17 points, Mason Hamby had 16, Weston Hamby 14, and Brayden Casper and Kamdyn Lester both added 11 points.

Manchester travels on Saturday to play TRC member Wabash.

Triton’s Late Lead Slips In Loss To Argos

PLYMOUTH – Triton found itself down early against Argos Thursday night in a boys basketball game, which led to Argos winning 38-33.

The Trojans (5-9) saw a 10-3 deficit after the first quarter, but were able to gain a lead in the next two periods. 

Argos (10-6) had a 17-14 lead headed into halftime, but Triton’s defense showed up at break.

The Trojans went on a 14-7 run in the third period and were able to gain a 28-27 advantage. 

Over the next eight minutes in the fourth quarter, Argos would outscore Triton 14-5 to earn the nonconference victory.

Beau Hepler scored 12 points and had a team-high four rebounds in the loss. Ross Johnson tallied 10 points.

The Trojans visit Caston on Saturday for a Hoosier North Conference contest.
