St. Anne’s Announces Lenten Services

Join St. Anne’s Episcopal Church for its Lenten celebration and worship.  

Feb. 13 is Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras).  The public is invited to come feast with the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in preparation for this Lenten season.  

On Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, Mass is planned for 7 p.m. The Rev. Canon Richard Kallenburg will preside.

Lent is a time for prayer, self-reflection and reorientation of life toward the Lord.  All are welcome.

Jay Stone Singers Coming To Riverview

TIPPECANOE — A gospel concert featuring the Jay Stone Singers is planned for 6 p.m. Sunday at Riverview Community Church.

The group was founded by Jay Stone in North Carolina in 1976. Jay and Mary Stone retired in 2010, but the group continues with the Stones’ daughter Sharona, her husband Bobby Carter, and their children, Stone Carter and Emma Carter.

The group’s desire is to “encourage the  hurting, witness to the lost and motivate others to grow the Kingdom of God.”

There is no charge for the concert, but a love offering will be collected for the group.

Sabbath Meetings Will Begin Friday

The Way of Spirit and Truth, a Sabbath meeting dedicated to discipleship and holiness, will begin meeting at 6:30  p.m. Fridays at Bibles and Books in Warsaw.

The goal of the meetings is to seek God's perspective in every area of life. Organizers say it is a “non-typical gathering of true disciples of Jesus the Messiah without traditions, seeking to line up every area of life with the Word of God and be pleasing to Him.”

Palestine Bible Church Seeking Pastor

PALESTINE — The Palestine Bible Church is accepting applications for the position of pastor.  

Located in Palestine, seven miles southwest of Warsaw on Ind. 25, the church is nondenominational and independent. It is a fundamental, Bible-believing church “with a strong desire to serve God and the Palestine community.”  

Because the congregation is small, the Palestine Bible Church can support only a part-time pastor.

Lecture To Focus On Rodeheaver’s Legacy

Dr. Terry White, who co-authored the centennial history of Winona Lake titled “Winona at 100: Third Wave Rising,” will present an illustrated lecture on Homer Rodeheaver’s work as a musician on Feb. 11.

White’s presentation will begin at 3 p.m. at the Warsaw First United Methodist Church. It will include a creative “Name That Rodeheaver Tune” audience-involvement contest. The program will conclude with a short hymn sing. Artifacts from Rodeheaver’s life and ministry will be on display.

Winona Lake was known in the early and middle 1900s as home of the world’s largest Bible conference. A key figure in that movement was evangelist Billy Sunday, who moved with his family to Winona Lake in 1911. Sunday’s music leader, choir director, and platform emcee was a young trombonist named Homer Rodeheaver. Rodeheaver worked with Sunday for 20 years, then established a school of music, an annual summer music festival and a publishing company that became the largest gospel music publisher in the world. Rodeheaver amassed copyrights from hundreds of authors, hired composers and editors to put them to music, and published and recorded some of America’s best-loved hymns and gospel songs, including “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In the Garden” and “Beyond the Sunset.”



IF:Gathering For Women Planned Feb. 9-10

NORTH MANCHESTER — Tens of thousands of women worldwide will participate in the IF:Gathering on Feb. 9-10, and a livestream of the event is planned locally.

The IF:Gathering “provides space for women to wrestle with essential questions of faith, to dream and to connect.” It will represent a variety of cultures and denominations.

The nonprofit was born out of a vision from Jennie Allen, author of “Restless” and “Nothing to Prove.”

Lenten Day Retreat Coming To Lindenwood

Donaldson — Lindenwood Retreat and Conference Center is offering a Lenten Day Retreat led by Father Jerry Schweitzer from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 19.

The topic centers around John the Baptist. Who was John the Baptist as shown in biblical literature and historical tradition? What was his impact upon Jesus and the community of his time and today?

 Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $35 per person, which includes lunch and refreshments. Mass will be offered.
