Prep Roundup: Manchester Wrestlers Win Invitational

ROCHESTER – The Manchester High School wrestling team picked up a tournament championship Saturday, giving the Squires some momentum heading into the Christmas break.

Led by individual champions Ashton Moore and Dylan Stroud, the Squires won the John McKee Invitational at Rochester with 202 team points. Fellow Three Rivers Conference schools Rochester and Maconaquah finished second and third with 194.5 and 163 points, respectively.

Stroud, now 16-3 on the season, won the 120-pound weight class and scored 30 points toward the Squires’ team total.

Moore, now 17-2, won the 195-pound division and scored 28 points toward Manchester’s total.

Bryce Kamphues, now 17-2, was the runner-up in the 285-pound division for the Squires, scoring 22 points toward the team total.

Lady Trojans Fall To Rochester

BOURBON – In a low-scoring nonconference high school girls basketball game, the Triton Lady Trojans scored just nine points in the first half Saturday and went on to lose 38-30 to the visiting Rochester Lady Zebras.

Triton trailed 7-4 after one quarter of play, 15-9 at halftime and 23-19 heading into the final frame.

There were six lead changes and one tie in the game, and Rochester held the game’s largest lead at 21-11, despite committing 29 turnovers.

Maci Brown was 4 of 5 from the field, all from the arc, and made all six of her free throw attempts en route to a game-high 18 points for Rochester.

Kaitlin Rogers and Kensey McKee scored seven points each and both grabbed eight rebounds for the Lady Zebras, while Corina Peterson and Genni Isbell rounded out Rochester’s scoring with four and two points, respectively.

Chelsea Johnson tallied seven points and eight rebounds for Triton, and Lexia Hostrawser added seven points and seven boards.

Jaela Faulkner and Alyxa Viers scored six and five points, respectively, in the loss.

Triton was 11 of 52 from the field, a shooting performance that included a 1-of-17 effort from three-point range.

Rochester was 11 of 27 overall and 5 of 11 from the arc.

The Lady Trojans are in action again Jan. 2 when they host Oregon-Davis.
