Ryman, Lady Tigers Shoot Down Wawasee

The Lady Tigers basketball team was nearly 65 percent from the floor in a 67-23 rout of Northern Lakes Conference rival Wawasee at the Tiger Den.“
When you shoot well, everything looks good,” said Warsaw coach Lenny Krebs.
The game was close early. Wawasee’s Casey Schroeder hit three three-pointers, and the Lady Warriors trailed 13-9 in the first quarter.
“We executed pretty well altogether in the first half, and at the beginning of the game,” said Wawasee coach Matt Carpenter. “Schroeder stepped up and knocked down shots I expected her to make.”
The Lady Tigers, however, hit shots that by now have become their modus operandi.
Warsaw (10-4, 2-0 NLC) hit five three-pointers – including two each by Maddie Ryman and Halle Shipp – in an 18-5 run to give the Lady Tigers a 34-14 lead.
“We just happened to hit more shots than they did, and that’s how we were able to build a little bit of a lead,” Krebs said. “But Wawasee did some things extremely well at the beginning of the game. They were the aggressors and they out-executed us there.”
The second half was a different story. While the Lady Tigers continued to drain shots, their defense allowed them to seal the victory by allowing Wawasee no points in the third quarter.
“In the third quarter, we did a much better job of being able to pressure them but not get beat,” Krebs said.
Ryman scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the third quarter, and by the start of the fourth Warsaw held a 51-16 lead.
“We didn’t play a second half,” said Wawasee coach Matt Carpenter.
Warsaw played its reserves throughout the fourth quarter, and Krebs was glad for the opportunity to get them valuable minutes.
“We want to get that eighth, ninth, 10th person developed not just for the year but for the future,” Krebs said.
Fifteen of Ryman’s points came on three-pointers. She is 10 of 13 from behind the arc over the past two games.
Schroeder had a team-high 11 points for the Lady Warriors (2-10, 0-3 NLC).
The Lady Tigers have won seven straight games, and eight of their last nine.
Wawasee will play Friday at Central Noble, while Warsaw will host Huntington North at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 29 in the Lady Tiger Classic.
