BOURBON — Donel R. Doan, 48, Bourbon, passed away Aug. 27, 2018, in South Bend Center for Hospice Care with his loving family by his side.

Donel “Don” was born Feb. 8, 1970, in Warsaw, to Donald Larry Doan Sr. and Cheryl Gift Doan and has been a lifelong area resident.

Don worked for Zimmer Biomet as a machinist and was a prison guard at the Miami County Correctional Facility.

Don was a 1988 graduate of Triton High School. He was a member of the Etna Green Fire Department, as well as a support member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, and a member of Bourbon American Legion Post 424.

Don honorably served his country in the United States Army for 24 years and retired in 2014.

On Dec. 16, 2015, Don was joined in matrimony to his wife, Sharon Patterson Doan, at Fort Gordon, Ga.

Those left to celebrate the memory of Don are his wife; his mother, Cheryl, of Bourbon; his children: Melissa, Ty and Darian Doan, all of St Charles, Minn.; and Aidan Doan, Bourbon. Also surviving are two siblings: his brother and wife, Donald “Larry” II and Anita Doan, Twelve Mile, and his sister, Erin (Brad) Beatty, Etna Green; along with two step-children, Chase Howell, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Ethan Howell, Bourbon. Honoring his memory is his previous spouse, Teena Halbakken Doan, St Charles.

Don was preceded in passing by his father Nov. 2, 2013, and maternal grandmother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in First United Church of Christ, 407 N. Main St., Bourbon.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, in the church, with Pastor Susan Clark officiating. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, with military honors by the Bourbon American Legion.

A celebration of life will follow burial at the Bourbon Senior Center (Matchett Center), 805 N. Harris, Bourbon, to share with the family.

Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements for the Doan family.
