Playing the host Plymouth Rockies at Kindt Field, the Class 3A No. 12 Tigers turned a 1-0 halftime lead into a convincing 3-0 win.
All three of Warsaw’s goals were scored by juniors – Blake Burns, Jose Lara and Jorge Rico.
Rico added an assist to his statline, while junior Luis Cleto and senior Isaiah VanPuffelen each had an assist.
“Coming off our tie with Argos, I was proud to see the players step up and compete from the start of the match,” said Warsaw coach Frank Courtois.
With the win, the Tigers are now 2-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the NLC. Plymouth fell to 2-1 and 0-1.
Warsaw has outscored its three opponents 6-1, with the lone goal given up in a 1-1 draw at Argos.
Courtois felt like his team dominated the game at Argos, which was played on Aug. 14, the Tigers just didn’t have the goals on the scoreboard to show for it.
With Tuesday’s home game cancelled because of the weather, Thursday’s game at Plymouth was the Tigers’ first contest since the tie at Argos.
Warsaw looked like a focused team as it took the first step toward its goal of winning a conference title.
“All of our players competed and played strong the entire 80 minutes,” said Courtois, whose team is led by a number of players from last year’s squad that lost on PKs to eventual state champion Lafayette Harrison in the Kokomo Regional semifinal.
Warsaw is in action again Saturday when it travels to Mishawaka Marian for a non-conference clash.
