Sean Silveira finished second in Saturday’s wakesurfing event, but his finish was good enough to secure the season points title in the event. Parker Payne was the winner at Center Lake, but Silveira had a huge lead and didn’t falter to take home the points title.
Saturday’s event marked the first time the championship – or any events associated with Supra Boats wakeboard competition – has been in Warsaw, and attracted several hundred spectators lined along the Center Lake beach.
Rapa carried a 15-point lead into Saturday’s final, and wasn’t able to practice Friday in Warsaw. It was revealed after the competition that Rapa performed with a broken fibula, according to a news release from Supra Boats.
Rapa tied for the second-highest score (with Harley Clifford) in the qualifying rounds, with Teunissen fourth. Tony Iacconi was the lone rider to finish with a score better than 90 in the qualifying rounds.
Teunissen had the best score in the semifinals, while Rapa nabbed the last spot in his semifinal heat. Teunissen beat Iacconi for the title in the finals, followed by Clifford, Tyler Higham and Rapa.
Rapa finished second in the points standings to Teunissen. It was the first overall title for Teunissen, who threw down a flawless 1080, toeside double back roll, and double half cab roll to seal the deal and cement his place in PWT history, the organization said.
“Coming in I knew it was going to be a big weekend, and with Nic being 15 points ahead of me,” Teunissen said in a video interview afterward.
“After the first run in the finals he was still ahead of me, so I pretty much just went for broke to try and throw something down, and it happened to be my day today.”
Higham won Pro Wakeboard Tour Rookie of the Year. He finished fourth overall Saturday and put together a strong season. He came in sixth in the PWT overall championship rankings with a total score of 242 points.
