James Paul Grothaus, 24, of 2693 E. Steven Drive, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:21 p.m. Thursday for intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon; and pointing a loaded firearm at a person, a level 6 felony. His preliminary bond was set at $15,250.
On Thursday, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Neal Likens responded to a report of intimidation. Upon arrival, he spoke with a man who said he got into an argument with a neighbor, Brooke Green, in the presence of a third man, Grothaus.
He said Grothaus then went into the garage and came out with what looked like a .380 caliber, and Grothaus pointed it at him. The man then called police, and Grothaus and Green went back into the residence. Green then came back out carrying a purse and left the residence, making a comment about her leaving with the gun.
County deputy Travis Shively was able to contact Green by telephone. She said she got into an argument with the neighbor and it escalated. She and Grothaus confronted the neighbor and told him, “just wait, next time I see you I’m going to come back with a gun.”
Likens then spoke with a neighbor who said he heard a lot of yelling and then saw a woman leave the residence with a purse and walk up to the male subject, show him the purse and left.

Officers then spoke with Grothaus, who confirmed he and the neighbor got into an argument.
Kosciusko County Central Dispatch later received a call that a purse with a gun inside it had been found a half mile away from the residence. Police said the gun was loaded and described it as a black Stoeger .380 handgun.
Grothaus was previously convicted of forgery, a Class C felony, and failure to appear, a level 6 felony, on Aug. 10, 2015, in Kosciusko County Circuit Court.
He was convicted of auto theft, a level 6 felony, on Jan. 3, 2017, in Kosciusko County Superior Court I.
